Fall Trunk Club Review & Try-On Session

I was so thrilled to see you all loved my summer review of Trunk Club — it’s the Nordstrom personal styling subscription box service that delivers “trunks” to your door! — so I thought it would be fun to share with you my Fall Trunk Club review.

The quick recap of Trunk Club: free for Nordstrom cardholders and $25 otherwise (can be used toward an item in your trunk), the service connects you with a stylist where they customize a box based on your preferences. For example, you can tell them a theme — vacation, work mode, athleisure — or that you’re looking for a fall refresh, you need black booties and a new purse, etc. From there, they get to work and then let you preview your trunk online.  Remove anything you don’t want to test (maybe you have something similar or it’s out of your price range), and then you give the green light. The Trunk ships to you, you play dress up and then only pay for what you keep.

It’s honestly seriously awesome and I’ve had so much fun with the process. I’m a Nordstrom card holder and like exploring new styles. It’s great to not front money to order all of these items so Trunk Club has been a fun service.

As a heads up, this post is not sponsored in any capacity; I do get credit for my Trunk Club review if you shop through my referral link, so you decide to test it I’d be grateful if you click through my link.

Here’s my fall Trunk Club review!

First and most importantly: Sorry! The lighting in my bathroom is TERRIBLE but it’s my only adequate full-length mirror. (major blogger fail!).

I told my Trunk Club stylist, Madeline, I wanted some versatile day to night tops and some fun fall florals, plus I mentioned I wanted to try this fab Topshop black tote and this mesh detailed camisole. I did omit swap out one or two items (for example, she mentioned the cutest grey denim, but I have grey denim so I knew I’d never purchase them), and here’s what I received.

Peplum button down top: SO cute! Wearing size small, I love the versatility of a top like this, from work to a girls night or even casually with a pair of flats. It also comes in a few colors and prints.

Madewell denim: word on the street is that Madewell’s denim is where it’s at. It’s nearly half the price of a lot of designer denim, and the quality is fantastic. They also run true to size. I really, really love this pair but just noticed this button front black denim pair that are super cool, and I’ll get more use out of them heading into fall and winter. If you don’t have black denim, it’s a wardrobe essential.

Black booties: see below for a better photo; super cool bootie with two textures and just under $100. I love the cut-out. I will say they run a little big so if you’re between sizes, go down.

Topshop tote: OBSESSED. This one is a major keeper and such a steal at under $50. I love, love the handle and that it comes with a comfortable cross-body strap; the purse lays nicely against you.

I should say I love, love the print and the sleeves are super cool, but it rides up, and I still wouldn’t spend that much. 😉 That said, if you’re looking for a different type of top, I’m really into this Cece square-neck option on sale.

Ray-ban sunglasses: there is no way I can justify new sunglasses right now but if you need a pair, these are awesome. The slightly rounded lenses are really on-trend, without being trendy… plus, they’re ultra-light weight and seem really durable.

Gibson wrap top: So, I love, love this top… but not the color of the floral print. It’s too teal for me. It’s sadly sold out in other colors otherwise I would have exchanged. Wearing size small.

Halogen mules: these fun mules are SO out of my comfort zone but they’re also really cool. The higher front keeps them from wobbling around on your foot, and the block heel is really comfortable. I went back and forth on these but I don’t think I’d get enough use, at least in the burgundy. They come in black and are a great, affordable option if you’re looking for for a comfortable, cool shoe. They run TTS. If you prefer a narrow heel, try this one with a bow detail.

1 State mesh inset camisole: LOVE this one and another keeper! I did exchange it for an XS; wearing a size small here and it works but felt a little too roomy around the midsection. You’ll be seeing this on the blog soon styled with a blazer… I love how it works just as well on its own as it does layered under a blazer, denim jacket or even a cozy cardigan for a sexy little contrast.

Gorjana beaded necklace: see that cute little necklace above… it was also in my trunk. If you’re looking for a delicate, everyday necklace, it’s really pretty and a good price at $55. I also love this interlocking rings necklace from Gorjana.

Gal Meets Glam dress: ignore my granny moment above, lol! I’ve actually been so wanting to try a Gal Meets Glam dress (designed by blogger Julia of Gal Meets Glam) and there are so many good dresses on Nordstrom’s site right now (this one on sale is super tempting!), however this wasn’t a winner. It’s not really my style, and the fit didn’t work… I couldn’t move my arms and yet there was extra material under the bust.  Pass.

Fuzzy cardigan: you guys, this cardigan. OMG. My cardigan obsession continues and this one is the softest situation you’ve ever experienced but in a very lightweight way. I never thought a Florida girl could have a cozy cardigan outside… perhaps until now. 😉 It’s insanely soft, has pockets, goes with everything, and comes in three colors: navy, a brighter pink and a blush pink. It’s not inexpensive but guys, I just ordered a cheaper version elsewhere and it was terrible. Scratchy and blech. If you could use a cardy update, this is it. Check out how I styled it below for a casual afternoon out.

    It’s
Sad that almost every shopper finds the prices high. Maybe you could have your staff try to find similar pieces at a lower price range. If my niece could do it in high school a pro should should’ve able to un less you only work for Northstroms. I have even seen knock offs on tv from Red carpets. Good looks though

I tried Trunk Club, probably on your recommendation. I think my stylist is also Madeleine (same?). I love the service, but it is Nordstrom, so it’s expensive. There is no way I’ll ever be able to keep everything. It feels more personal and better suited to my personal style than the other service I tried. I like that you can swap things out before the box ships.

TOtally agree! I personally don’t think of the trunk as something where I’d keep everything (unless I was someone who shopped like twice per year), but I agree… it’s awesome to swap things out, try new things, and hopefully find 2-3 pieces that refresh your closet! So glad you liked your experience.

I’ve been dying to try this after seeing others have such great success with it! Can you specify price points that you prefer? Some Nordstrom pieces can be a little outside of my budget but I love the idea of this.

You can definitely specify price points (everything under $75 or $100), and I love how you can also swap out items before the trunk ships. I have done that with items out of my price range. Plus, I LOVE that you can also request they include anything from Nordstrom you’ve been interested in trying… this way you’re not fronting the cost for it if you don’t love it. I think that’s a huge perk!

That’s the tough part! Almost grateful that not everything fits, lol. 😉 The topshop bag is a definite favorite, too!
