Holy October! First, how funny is the comment above?! I shared it last night on Instagram and reassured to know I’m not the only one who feels this way. I graduated college in 2002; I’m not sure what happened to all the years since.
Speaking of time flying by, what is happening to 2018?! I’m refusing to give into the crazy though, because we still have about 75 days to make the most of 2018. Do you have something you’ve been putting off? Now is the time to dig in, believe in yourself and make it happen. I’ve been sharing more motivational and personal content on Instagram in particular, so follow me at @themodernsavvy… would love to connect!
Now, here are my current favorites this month, not including of course pumpkin patches, the idea of cooler weather & holidays on the horizon!
Current Favorites October 2018:
ORGANIZING: Make-up/bathroom organizer (here)
Holy happiness! After doing a MAJOR bathroom cleanout (great tips here), I realized I needed some more efficient storage. This rotating organizer is the ultimate. It’s under $20, you can set the shelves at any height and it stores so much. It would be great just for your makeup (even on your counter top since it takes up so little space), but I’m using it for all the other stuff. I organized each bottom section by type — hair, face, body, creams, etc — and then the other shelves based on what needed a home. I find myself using the products more because they’re all cleanly stored in one place. A shout out to Courtney (@mrscocowyse) who initially mentioned this on Instagram! And, I keep all of my Amazon purchases here in my Amazon shop, and link most of my outfits in my Insta Shop.
WATCHING: G.L.O.W. on Netflix
A number of you mentioned loving GLOW (Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling), a show set in the 80’s about a group of women who come together to film a show about women’s wrestling. It started out a little slow for us, but we kept going — each episode is about 30 minutes — and we were were so sad when we finished the second season (each one is only 10 episodes). If you’re looking for an easy, fun watch, I highly suggest!
WEARING: This thermal (here)
You saw me mention last week my renewed obsession with Abercombie. It’s true, and I’m not embarrassed to admit it! I was on the hunt for a new thermal and ordered from both Abercrombie and Old Navy after seeing bloggers rave about both. You guys, the Abercrombie one is better… it’s softer, stretchier and more flattering. The Old Navy one is good and there’s more stock available still, I’m just reliving my best 1990’s self apparently. 🙂 I accidentally photographed this thermal during two blog photos shoots about seven times so get ready to see it alot. 😉 I have the creamy white, and the stripes. Such a good fall basic, on its own or layered. Size small fit me best from both stores.
MAKING: Slime (here’s how I store it & Sarah’s favorite ingredients!)
Moms out there… can you relate?! Some moms ban it in their house, and some fools like me, let your kid take a giant space in a closet with all their slime supplies. Sarah’s full-on slime obsessed, and have to say, knows her stuff. One day when she’s a scientist I’ll know this wasn’t in vain. 😉
Whether your kiddo wants to make regular, fluffy, floam, glitter, butter, or any other variation (and yes, I am embarrassed I know this without having to ask!), storing it is critical. MOMS: if you are also losing all of your containers, get these ASAP. It was the best $15 I ever spent!
Sarah’s favorite ingredients: regular glue // clear glue // foam balls // food coloring // fake snow // Daiso clay // sprinkles // nail art pieces // also lotion, shaving cream and contact lenses solution — I buy cheapest at Target
Also, if you’re new to slime, we got this $12 “slime starter pack” and while it looks small when it arrives, there’s a lot there. Sarah has been loving it!
Note: slime has been amazing motivation; she has to earn these slime supplies (even things like baking soda and lotion).
READING: How you can follow through
“Many people think they lack motivation when what they really lack is clarity.”
THIS. This article shares one simple change to help you to follow through with a goal. You’re motivated, but… what do you do next?! That’s where people usually fail, stop or don’t even try. And, that’s the question women are always asking. I have an amazing idea or all the visions… but now what? Read this for a great light bulb moment.
BEAUTY: Fresh lip treatment in honey
I’ve been obsessed with this Fresh lip treatment for ages, so much so that I usually have at least one or two with me at all times. It’s super hydrating product with SPF and keeps my lips hydrated, smooth and soft during Florida summer’s and when we travel during colder months. I always, always have the nude one with me… I’ve tried less expensive options and it’s never as good; tulip is fun for a light pop of pink in the summer, and the honey is my new obsession. They describe it as a “warm bold nude” and it’s exactly that. Just a bit of deeper color perfect when you want something on your lips, without drying them out.

October 15, 2018 at 2:18 PMI know, I keep wondering where all the time has gone, and what exactly I even have to show for it? But I suppose we keep busy and keep going, time passes, no matter how we feel about it.

October 15, 2018 at 7:50 AMAlways love these posts – Lauren is also obsessed with slime, though we haven’t ventured into making our own yet. Huge fan of the Fresh Lip treatment as well – I use it like crazy in the winter months especially!

October 15, 2018 at 9:16 AMThe Fresh lip treatment is the best, and oh my gosh — Lauren would have a field day in my house! I don’t know how this happened but it has worked as a good incentive for school and good behavior. 🙂
