Why You Should Use a Lash Primer

I’m longer lash obsessed these days, and it seems like many of you feel the same. I’m personally not about the time and financial investment of false lashes so it’s all about working with what you have. You might have heard me mention lash primer in this longer lashes post but it really deserves its own attention; so what exactly is lash primer? Let me fill you in.

Think of lash primer as a foundation for your lashes, similar to how you might think of a primer to help maximize the impact and staying power of foundation.

Swipe one coat of lash primer before your favorite mascara for thicker, longer looking lashes. Most formulas also condition, nourish and strengthen lashes, too. You’ll be shocked at the difference this one extra step (about 20 seconds) can make.

When should you use lash primer?

You decide. It definitely adds volume and thickness, so some people use it daily (hand raised!), otherwise use lash primer as a base layer for extra glam for a night out or big event.

So far Lancome’s CILS Booster XL is my favorite, followed by Grande Lash. Both are white so you’ll need to make sure you adequately cover it with your mascara. I haven’t had an issue at all with Lancome, while I’ve had to pay attention to this with Grande Lash.

Benefit makes a tinted primer, which I hear is awesome & I plan to try next. L’Oreal also makes a fantastic option for only $5!

For reference, and ignore these terrible photos, the photo on the left shows the primer on one eye, and the photo on the right shows primer and mascara. Compare my eye without anything to the finished; talk about impact!

I do want to mention that I recently did my “lash lift” again (more about that here) and since my lashes are a little droopy, it really helps open my eyes without curling them daily. Would you be interested in a blog post specifically about this? Our savvy squad friends on Instagram said yes, so let me know if you’d want to read more about the process.

Back to lash primer… what do you think? Do you use it? If so, comment below and let me know which one, or swipe through here to check out my favorites. Note that some come in mini sizes, including Lancome, if you want to test a smaller size for less.

I love the Lancôme primer! And I feel like it has helped nourish my lashes as well. I tried using R & F lashboost and it irritated my eyes way too much so I’m hoping the Lancôme is giving me some benefit that way. Since I’m such a fan of It cosmetics, I tried their primer which they also call tightline and I wasn’t impressed. Definitely curious about the benefit one though! 🙂

The lancome one is awesome… that’s too bad about lash boost. I am actually about to start testing a brand-new lash booster. I have pretty sensitive eyes so I’ll be reporting back here with my progress.
