The 25 Best Summer Reads

The best summer books to read by the beach and pool (or cuddled up on the couch... really anywhere!) // the modern savvy

It’s that time of year when thankfully, life slows down a little, it stays light out later and we can enjoy a little more r&r. Sure, errands, appointments, work & kiddos still take time — would never want to pretend like I’m just lounging here in paradise —  however I love summer for being able to indulge in new books, time by the pool and refreshing cocktails. Who’s with me?

I’ve made a personal commitment to read more, aiming for one book a month (I always rather beat a goal than pretend I’ll read five books, fail, and then never continue; “attainable yet aspirational!”).

These summer reads are a glorious compilation of easy beach reads, intense suspense, some kick-some-ass / self-love reads, a few best-sellers about to be movies, and more. I’m linking to Amazon and also consider pinning/saving this and bringing it to your local library. So many now offer digital books too, with your library card! For the record, I’m seriously old school and love holding a book but also use my Kindle Paperwhite, especially for travel.

Here’s the summer reads to add to your list… or to work through before the end of 2018!

Summer Reads List:

The 25 Best Books to Read this Summer (and into the fall, too!) // the modern savvy, a life & style blog - The 25 Best Summer Reads featured by popular Florida lifestyle blogger, The Modern Savvy

Educated (on my list) // Slightly South of Simple // Marriage Vacation (from the show, Younger!) // The Flight Attendant

Little Fires Everywhere // The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck (must read!) // The Immortalists // How Not to Hate Your Husband After Kids (also a fun baby shower gift!)

The Hate You Give // The Light We Lost // The Woman in Cabin 10 // The Marriage Lie

Girl, Wash Your Face (I loved!) // All We Ever Wanted // Behind Closed Doors // Where’d You Go Bernadette (highly recommended)

Crazy Rich Asians (so good, a trilogy with movie out this summer) // The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo (multiple friends suggested) // When Life Gives You Lululemons // 10% Happier (read years ago & still resonates)

The Kiss Quotient // Slammed // Still Me (last in the amazing Me Before You trilogy) // The Hating Game

Hope this is helpful for you; I know it’s inspired me and has me excited to start reading. What are you currently reading, or excited to dig into this summer?? Share with all of us (the savvy squad!).

I got really excited about this list because of being out on maternity leave – and all the free time while baby sleeps! Literally screenshooting this. I’ve read The Subtle Art, Where’d You Go Bernadette and Crazy Rich Asians – they were all super good, so it gives me confidence this list is legit!

Sort of on topic… Kindle – is it a must have or just another Amazon trap? If it’s a must have for readers, why the paper white?

On topic, for sure. 🙂 I must confess that I got the Kindle for travel. I much prefer holding a real book. I got the paperwhite because it was on a mega sale. I have a super light weight laptop and an iPhone 8+ (larger screen) so I didn’t feel like I needed to spend more on some of the other Kindles. Is that helpful??

I bought a kindle and hated it!!! Amazon kept pushing ads and it had so many preloaded things on it. I exchanged for a tablet and just downloaded the kindle app.

Smart move! I find it handy for travel but it’s not my favorite either. Some people love it.
