Alyson’s Obsessions // March 2018

Holy cow, 2018 is flying by! We are on a cruise as you’re reading this and hopefully everyone is having the best time every, and no sea sickness. Wanted to pop in however and share a few things I’m loving this month.

 

THREE SPRING OUTFIT OBSESSIONS

Mas Amor Por Favor tee: You can’t beat a good Target purchase… or a cozy tee with a great saying. This checks both of these off and I love, love everything about this tee. It’s message is so on point, it’s incredibly comfy and I love the rounded neckline and cuffed sleeve. For sizing, I sized up to a medium.

Rose gold Birkenstocks (with new soft footbed!): I’ve debated a pair of Birks for two years (the 90s girl in me kept begging!) and I finally pulled the trigger after my physical therapist highly suggested them after I broke my toe two weeks ago. Yup, my pinky toe is in serious pain. Anyway, back to these… they’re so crazy cute (I keep getting compliments), this new soft footbed is such a game changer and the arch really helps my posture and comfort. I honestly find these more comfortable than walking bare foot around my house. They keep selling out in rose gold and other metallics. I found mine — the style is the Arizona — at Nordstrom; and Zappos is another great retailer. Honestly, love this so much… I’m considering getting the white pair next.

Denim shorts: If you don’t want too short shorts (I mean, booty hanging out is not the best look — sorry), these are the best. I’m wearing them here, for reference, and love, love the distressed detailing, side hem and slightly longer length in the back for extra coverage.

 

THE SAVVY SQUAD (JOIN US!!)

Are you part of the new Savvy Squad on Facebook? It’s a private group I recently set up (don’t worry, everyone gets accepted… just want to keep out any creeps!) where we can ask each other questions, share ideas, you name it. The word “obsessed” doesn’t even do justice to how much I love this new little community. A BOOK FOR SARAH

Teddy Mars: Almost a World Record Breaker... Sarah and I picked this book up during a winter book fair and each night would read a few chapters. It’s been tough finding books she’s really into (“comic book” style books have become so popular and the traditionalist in me isn’t loving them). Anyway, Teddy Mars is a winner; we had a lot of fun taking turns each night reading, so much so that she was SO happy when I surprised her with the second book. I love, love seeing her happy about new books and this is a great option for a boy or girl.

 

ALUMINUM-FREE DEODORANT

I am a sweat-er, you guys. Nothing glamorous here about my time at the gym or living in Florida in the summer. It’s brutal. I have tried so many deodorants but many leave me feeling either smelly, or with fear of a very wet under arm situation. Sigh. I stumbled mention of this Arm & Hammer option, and at under $4 for two, I figured for less than the cost of a flat white (which by the way, is offensively expensive though I suppose that’s neither here nor there!), let’s try this. I couldn’t be happier with the result; of course the real test will come as the temperatures rise, however if you’re looking for an aluminum and paraben free option that dries clear, this is a fantastic one!

 

BATHROOM UPDATE

So sure, I’d love to do a major bathroom gut job on my guest and master bathrooms but that’s going to wait. Plan B: it’s incredible the impact a fresh new shower curtain can make! I swapped out the worn out one in the guest/kids bathroom with this fresh one — love the tassel details and color palette! — and best of all, it only set us back $24. We also added two of these pretty floating wood shelves above our toilet for extra storage. I love the impact this little difference can make; compare it to a pillow refresh on your couch.
