Woah, I’ve been blogging for six years. That’s an eternity for this “job.” I started blogging when blogging wasn’t really a thing, when “outfit photos” were your husband taking them in your living room with awful lighting and even worse photo editing skills. I had no idea what I was doing but I decided to take that leap because this outlet seemed awesome, intriguing and such a phenomenal new way to connect with others.
Let’s break it down though, because what happened was really quite simple.
I made a decision.
And, that decision transformed my life.
I had NO way to know what doing blog posts would mean, where it would take me, and the way it would make me think about the world, and how meaningful I would find it to connect with you, other women around the world who might be different than me but ultimately, so, so similar.
It’s not worth a long post about the way The Average Girl’s Guide has transformed my life except that it so utterly has…. six years of this incredible place because of women like you. This little community we’ve built.
While I can have frustrations every so often that I wish my site was “bigger” (ironic compared to last week’s post), I’m so grateful for all of it.
If you have watched my Wine Down Wednesdays on Facebook — they’re seriously so fun! — you heard last week that the blog will be undergoing a really exciting rebrand with a new name reflective of where I’m headed. It will be happening later this fall and I can’t wait to share more very soon.
Thank you for being you, for supporting me through so many ups and downs, for laughing and crying with me, and for commenting, emailing and reading each day.
xo, Alyson

September 13, 2016 at 9:22 AMCongrats on 6 years! I know exactly how you feel — from the gratefulness, to the frustrations, to the sheer awe that comes from randomly creating something that “sticks.” For what it’s worth, your blog seems “big” to me and your accomplishments — huge! 🙂 Wishing you continued success, but more importantly, JOY in your work! <3
