Sometimes I just really need a carb and the born-in-New York-Jewish girl in me just LOVES her bagels. They’re so good but sometimes I don’t feel like going out for them. Enter this two-ingredient bagel recipe! They’re so yummy, easy to make, there’s no yeast, no boiling and they’re healthier than store-bought options (and I can stay in my pajamas with my crazy hair!).
Two Ingredient Bagel Recipe
Two ingredient bagels basically have become my obsession during quarantine. I always get questions whenever I make these super-easy-to-make bagels whenever I post about them, so I wanted to share the recipe here. Get ready for delicious, healthier, fresh-baked bagels — think lower carbs and higher protein — that you can easily make in the oven or air frier. I also have videos saved on the highlights of my Instagram profile.
So here’s the deal… The dough is made from just two ingredients: self-rising flour and nonfat greek yogurt. YUP! That’s it. And, don’t worry if you don’t love greek yogurt, neither do I. You don’t taste it at all. Also, you can also use all-purpose flour, just add in 2 tsp of baking soda and a dash of salt. This dough technically can be used for anything, pizza, pretzels, etc.
After this, the rest is up to you with the two-ingredient bagels!
A few ways to eat your two-ingredient bagels:
Make everything bagels: do an egg wash and top with everything but the bagel seasoning before baking
Keep it plain – perfect for almond/peanut butter
Top with cream cheese, smoked salmon, onion and capers, yum!
Avocado toast – also layer on a poached or over-easy egg, too. So good.
Egg & cheese sandwich (& can’t go wrong with bacon, too!).
INGREDIENTS
1 cup self-rising flour (or 1 cup all-purpose flour, 2 tsp baking powder + ¾ tsp salt)
1 cup plain fat-free Greek yogurt
1 egg white, lightly beaten
Optional: toppings, i.e. everything but the bagel seasoning, salt, cinnamon sugar, etc.
HOW TO MAKE TWO INGREDIENT BAGELS
OVEN: preheat to 375F degrees,
Combine flour and yogurt in a large mixing bowl. It’s a one-to-one ratio, so I’ll often now double the recipe. Add self-rising flour (or flour, baking powder, and salt whisked together) to a large mixing bowl. Mix ingredients together until it forms the balled dough; start with a spatula however it’s best just to get your (clean) hands in there.
Lightly flour a cutting board or clean surface and put the dough ball on it. Cut into four even pieces. Take each piece and roll them out and then form the bagel circle, pinching the ends together. Repeat for all.
Brush beaten egg over the top, and then top with any ingredients.
OVEN: place on a baking sheet with parchment, and bake for approximately 30 minutes, until golden brown. Feel it out; so many recipes out there have variations on time and temperature.
AIR FRIER: Cook at 400 for 7 minutes, and then flip and cook for three more minutes. I use this Ninja air frier.
If slightly under-cooked, totally ok… place sliced bagel in the air fryer or toaster oven for 2-3 minutes before eating with your favorite toppings. Again, there are so many slightly different temperature variations out there, so just test to taste.
