To mix things up today – every Friday I share a new outfit with inspiration and ideas for your personal style – I thought I’d mix it up to show a casual sporty look, plus why it is so important to invest in yourself and in great workout clothes.
Personally, having great workout gear is a huge motivator for me to get moving. To be clear, by great I don’t mean expensive… I mean well-fitting pieces that are fun, functional and make me feel strong. Who’s motivated when they seem themselves in a baggy t-shirt or ill-fitting leggings that show off every dimple or make you look bigger than you are?
When I work out with my personal trainer, Bell, she encourages me to wear shorter shorts and tank tops so we can see my muscles and also areas where I want to get stronger. It was tough at first but I found these shorts at Lululemon that I love, and I often wear a tank… usually by Athleta, and often the chi tank.
When on my own, I often love a fun pair of leggings.. bonus points if it includes a side pocket! I stumbled across these purple unicorn-inspired tights at Target and I had to grab them. If you’re into darker colors, this high-shine black/metallic pair were a serious runner up… they’re in my cart should they go on sale.
Today’s post is not trying to sell you; at least I’m not trying to sell you anything that I’m wearing – though I do love them. 😉 It’s more about encouraging you, if you don’t already, to invest in workout clothing that motivates.
I hear from women that they don’t want to spend money on workout gear until they lose weight.
Maybe they also mean they don’t think they deserve it?
I candidly don’t get this rationale. If it is a cost thing, Target has seriously stepped up its athletic game, and Old Navy compression tights are where it’s at… people compare them to Lulu for a fraction of the price. For example, these and these are awesome, and they’re $20-$30, before additional discounts. Get a quality sports bra (I love how the Athleta “Power of She” bras really keep your girls in place), a few tanks in a breathable fabric, and look at your strong, gorgeous self. You’ll be way more motivated to invest in yourself and your health.
Fact: it’s not worth “waiting until” with some things. We can always have that mentality but it gets us nowhere. Like we don’t deserve something now. But you do, whether it’s athletic clothing or anything else. Don’t “wait until”…invest in yourself now.
