It’s almost March and that means… SPRING BREAK! Ok, so we’re not college students anymore but I’m still a girl (and a cool mom, too…obvs), so of course that means I’ll be living my best life on a Disney cruise in a few short weeks. 😉 Get ready for me, spring break.
Whether you’re going on a week-long spring break trip with your family, a girls weekend, or taking a solo adventure (on my bucket list!), it’s important to think through what you’ll be packing.
You’ll never see here on The Modern Savvy how to pack for eight days in a carry-on. Holy cow ladies… I’m the worst when it comes to condensing! BUT: as a Florida girl, I do know the essentials you’ll need for fun in the sun. Keep it simple and remember: accessories make the outfit, and can easily make your look more casual or dressed up. Most importantly, have fun!
Spring Break Checklist – Put these items in your suitcase:
Striped dress: because it goes with everything (and it’s under $30!)
Denim jacket: the perfect layering tool all spring & summer
Blush wedges: ob-sessed with these. Wear with dresses, jeans, shorts!
Canvas tote: the perfect, travel/beach/pool/sightseeing/chic carry-all. Trust.
Sunglasses: super cool shades for $65. You don’t want to lose a pricey pair.
Bralette: I have this in two colors & love. Looks beautiful, is comfortable and is perfect for off-the-shoulder and lower back/sided tops.
Tie-front dress: the cutest cotton dress you can dress up or down (with a fun back detail, too!)
Fresh Sugar lip with SPF 15: Two of these are always in my purse. Always.
Airplane mode tee: because, obviously.
Polka dot blouse: I just ordered this; super cute with shorts & denim.
My favorite tee: my go-to Madewell tee now comes in the prettiest pale blue stripes.
Lemon blouse: how fun for spring, and the one shoulder is super on-trend.
Midi dress: I also ordered this adorable dress, perfect with sandals, and a quick change for date night.
Denim shorts: I recently got these and love the longer inseam & cool distressed vibe. I plan to live in these this year.
Pop socket: to make carrying your phone and snapping photos easier.
Off-the-shoulder bikini: I have & love; plus, you can wear the top with a high-waisted skirt for a fun look! Check out all the amazing reviews.
Kendra Scott earrings: so insanely gorgeous to add style to any outfit.
White denim: a spring essential. You must pack a pair & Citizens of Humanity “rocket sculpt” denim are the best… the fit is just so good.
Maxi cover-up: so in love with this maxi cover-up that’s perfect for breakfast to beach; it’s on my spring wish list for sure!
Hoodie: c’mon, who doesn’t love a super cozy hoodie for travel and laying around the hotel? I always love having something soft with me.
Sun bum: the best sunscreen!
Athleta bikini: I swear by their bikinis, and this one comes in bra size fitting (so no dealing with that frustrating S, M, L sizing)
Lilly Pulitzer one-piece: you guys saw me in this last week… it’s so, so gorgeous and the back has a fun detail. Just be sure to size up for a perfect look. PS: I find a fun print actually way more concealing/forgiving than a basic black… trust me on this one!
Havianas flip flops: rubber flip flops make beach and pool time way easier.
Wood purse: a more affordable version of this season’s coveted Cult Gaia; I can’t bring myself to spend $300 but love this $40ish one.
Pool float: seriously, back a pool float and ensure instant fun… and good Instagram pics!
TWO MORE FUN THINGS RELATED TO THIS SPRING BREAK CHECKLIST POST:
FIRST: Shopbop — a favorite online store — has one of its big sales going on right now, with up to 25% off nearly the entire side with code GOBIG18. Many of the items above are part of the sale, like my white denim, polka dot blouse & canvas tote. Be sure to scout out the bathing suits, the “fashion finds under $200“, Sam Edelman and my favorite brands for delicate/beautiful jewels: Madewell, Shashi and Gorjana. Here are some of my favorites & closet essentials that are worth stocking up on:
SECOND: I know shopping for swim can feel like water torture. I get it. And, what’s with bathing suits these days where there’s barely any butt cheek coverage? Personally I find it so much easier and more relaxing to bring suits home to test. Two years ago I discovered Athleta swim suits and must tell you that they are SO good. They’re supportive, well made, really pretty and a favorite among many friends (that’s how I found them). Order a few, grab a glass of wine or tea and test out your suit… and don’t be tough on yourself. Simply return whatever doesn’t work. I find this route so much less stressful.
