16 Ways to Spoil Yourself (You Deserve It!)

16 Ways to Spoil Yourself featured by popular Florida lifestyle blogger, The Modern Savvy

This time of year is all about everyone, and sadly, it’s easy for YOU to fall to the bottom of your own list. Trust me, there right now. I’ve definitely been neglecting myself in order to get holiday gifts, crank out helpful blog post content, stay on top of my PR job, make doctor appointments, run errands, and all the other mom/woman/life stuff that completely overtakes life.

That said, a little self care and love is critical always, and even more so this time of year. You need to spoil yourself. We all do. It often doesn’t require any money, just a little time. Say no to something — anything — so you can say yes to yourself.

Here are fun ways to spoil yourself!

Kick everyone out of your house. Seriously. If you’re a mom or have a roommate or feel like you never get your place to yourself, find an activity for everyone and get them out. Heck, maybe you just want to pee without interruption, or maybe you want to take a bath, watch a movie or read a book without someone hovering over you or asking you for something. Make it happen, even if it’s just for an hour.

Check out the holiday lights. Seriously, what’s more magical than driving throughout neighborhoods this time of year? Feel free to bring your loved ones on this because these are the good memories. Locally, I also love the light shows at Downtown at the Gardens in Palm Beach Gardens (it’s so pretty and fun!), and also heading to Downtown West Palm Beach to see Sandi, the sand tree that also features nightly light shows.

Bring in dinner from your favorite restaurant (not just a fast casual type place). Every once in a while we bring in a really good dinner, from a real restaurant. Sure, I love Chipotle, Pollo Tropical and Blaze Pizza but a real dinner, maybe even a little fancy, while enjoying it in your pajamas is pretty damn awesome.

Treat yourself to a massage or facial. Look for a Groupon or TravelZoo special and make it happen. There’s nothing better than a little luxurious spoiling going on. At a minimum, make time for a mani/pedi and feel fabulous all holiday season.

Schedule a girls night. Or, invite a girlfriend over for a glass of wine tonight. Truth: I just did. Sometimes the impromptu plans are the best plans. I love being at home instead of a restaurant. You can have a real conversation, it’s way less expensive and you can be in your comfiest clothes while talking with your bestie. Do it.

Plan a trip! Having something to look forward to automatically puts you in a better mood, I’m nearly positive that studies show this. We just booked a spring break family trip and even though it’s a trip (a vacation does not include my children, lol), I’m so pumped to create these memories together.

Treat yourself to something that will make your life easier or happier on a daily basis. Does your phone suck, is your purse all beat up, do you so wish you had Netflix, or do your go-to heels look worn out. Find something big or small that could bring you more joy on a daily basis.

Unplug. It’s necessary. Do you find yourself subconsciously reaching toward your phone or scrolling on Instagram without even realizing? It’s such a time suck. Delete some apps or move them off your first page on your phone. Out of sight out of mind. It will make you happier and give you time back.

Take a half day. Do you ever wonder who the heck are those people that go to the beach or mall or somewhere else in the middle of the day?! Make that you! There’s something super exhilarating about taking a few hours off when others are working. Go somewhere relaxing, hit the gym, go to a movie, lay in bed… just do something that makes you happy or just crank out all the errands that have been weighing on you. You’ll feel infinitely better.

Hire someone to clean your house and/or car. You guys, taking hours to clean SUCKS. I love clean but the time involved? BOoo. I just had my car cleaned by someone who comes to my house and I have to tell you it’s the best money spent ever. Sure, it’s a luxury but I didn’t have to drive 20 minutes to the car place, wait for my turn, take all my crap out, etc. I worked upstairs and voila, shiny car! Worth every penny. Every time I’ve gotten in my car this week I just smile.

Call your bestie. Man, who has time to make a real phone call these days? YOU DO. So do I. Give someone a call, or make a date to Skype or FaceTime with your bestie. Grab a glass of wine or cup of hot tea and virtually catch up. I bet you’ll laugh more tonight and be happier tomorrow.

Give Back. Give your time, your money, donations anything. Help build a better community. It’s honestly one of the most rewarding parts of my life, and selfishly, makes me really happy. Anything you do or give is better than doing nothing. Think about the real impact you can have. It’s contagious.

Treat yourself to that favorite impulse snack in the check out line. C’mon we always look at those treats and never want to splurge and are always focused on the calories. Let’s be honest: 250 calories won’t change anything…. except perhaps bring you intense joy. Grab that Snickers bar and eat it with reckless abandon and joy, without one ounce of guilt.

Wear your fancy clothes. Are you like me and save the “good items” for a “special day?!” LOL, what the heck are we doing? It’s so silly. If you have something you love, wear it now. It could be an awesome t-shirt you don’t want to wear out, or a sparkly dress.  I’ve saved something for that special occasion and you know what happens? No longer in style, or I’m over it. Wear it now.

STOP. BREATHE. REFLECT. Woman, it’s nearly the end of 2017. Are you working toward your personal goals? Have you made a dent? Do you really, truly believe in yourself? It’s so easy for days, for years to go by without you focusing on the big things that you want with your life. Go hide somewhere and think, am I truly doing what I want? Be honest with yourself, go deep even if it hurts and it’s scary. Please do it. You are capable of everything but you do have to believe in yourself and you do have to try. It’s worth it because you’re worth it.

Order pizza. Yup, because sometimes cooking dinner is just not in the cards and a delicious pizza with all your favorite toppings is guaranteed to make you happier. Fact.
