As a mom, I can feel like I’m being pulled in every direction. Between working, all the errands, meal prep and whatever else gets piled on, it can feel like I’m short on actual quality time with my kiddos, especially coveted one-on-one time. At three and a half, Evan is still a solid napper (seriously, at least three hours daily!) so Adam and I take turns taking Sarah places. In the summer, it’s either in the air conditioned, or somewhere involving h2o. There’s no in between.
To mix it up — see we’re normally pool people because, well, the pool doesn’t have sand! (truth) — we’ve been loving impromptu morning or late afternoon beach trips. It’s so relaxing to listen to the waves and play with the family.
Sunscreen is a must every day in the Florida heat, and even more so when outside for a few hours. We have super sensitive skin over here so I’m excited to be partnering with Blue Lizard®. When it comes to skin care I’m super particular who I’ll highlight on The Modern Savvy. If it irritates my skin or anyone in my family, no go. I like Blue Lizard for a few reasons: the brand only uses high-quality natural minerals, Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide for broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection and is recommended by dermatologists, pediatricians, and especially moms… trust me, I checked Amazon, and there are so, so many good reviews from people My favorite is the patented Smart Bottle™ technology – the bottle changes color when exposed to harmful UV sunlight (remember those fun color-change tees from the 90s?! Same concept). This is a great teaching tool for kids, and a great reminder to busy moms like moi, especially about when to re-apply.
We apply sunscreen before we go to the beach — and as you can see — Sarah has no interest in re-apply time when she’s busy collecting shells, so it’s this mama’s mission to make it happen! You can use the Blue Lizard “baby” and “sensitive” formulas on face or body, and it has no potentially irritating chemicals. Victory! Hope you find time (or seek out!) time this weekend in your happy place.
When it comes to swim suits, I’m loving this higher halter top if I’m playing with my kids. Trust me when I tell you I’ve had too many close calls / mortifying moments of children grabbing me or my suit!
What are other beach essentials? A hat, sunglasses, a waterproof bag for wet suits, a few towels, and obviously… donuts! We love picking them up from Jupiter Donut Factory.
Nothing better than these moments…
On me: swim top // swim bottom // sunglasses // sandals
On Sarah: swimsuit // watermelon towel

July 14, 2017 at 6:04 PMHow lucky are you to live so close to the ocean! This is seriously the cutest! And I swear by Blue Lizard. My son is allergic to the chemicals in regular sunscreen and it’s one of the few that doesn’t cause a full body rash. Good stuff.
