Over the past year, I’ve been pretty much affirmed that our little girl is well, not such a little girl. Don’t get me wrong, whether she likes it or not, she’ll always been my little girl, but Sarah — who at seven is already up to my shoulders in height — has very specific opinions about her room and her apparel. Like her mama, she loves black and gold and loves a bit of edge. For example, she begged me for that skull pillow on her bench.
In our quest to convert her little girl room to a big girl room, I researched (and wavered) for about a year about what type of bed to get. Her previous dark wood slat bed was essentially her converted crib. She wanted bunk beds but I ultimately vetoed, for a variety of reasons. When we saw this bed online at Pottery Barn Teen it was basically love at first sight. Man, what I’d kill to have a room as cool as hers! We patiently waited for a sale — most of the PBT pieces are from the Emily & Merritt Collection, which is rarely on promotion — and then mega splurged.
Our friend, Brianna, who owns a local interior design business, gave a lot of insight, too. For example, we loved the striped sheets PBT featured to contrast with the floral bedding but I refused to spend $150ish for one set of sheets (mama has her limits). Brianna suggested this amazing striped & acrylic bench that’s fit so insanely perfectly. Genius. Brianna is also the one who saw this Homegoods chair find — obsessed with the gold (I had only been able to find ones with a silver base, or more black hardware) — to complement the desk I had found a few months earlier. Yup, Sarah was pretty much standing at her desk for three months… Thanks, Brianna!
It’s fun to have a room that she’ll grow into. We still have some minor updates — I want update the photos and maybe get a fluffy little rug for in front of her bed, for example — but I’ve been so excited to share with you all the progress so far.
