Want to know the secret to quickly updating any space? Pillow swap. Consider your couch the perfect basic white tee (or grey, or blue)… it’s all about the accessories you layer on, and swapping out your pillows is a fool-proof, low dollar way to update, enhance and modernize your space. As we head into Spring, it’s also a way to give your space a fresh, springy vibe.
After four years in our home, we’ve finally been updating a bunch of spaces (check out our living room here), and while that couch is new — I’ve wanted a blue couch for about five years! — the pillows are all Homegoods finds. In our family room, we kept our neutral cream leather couch and are updating it with pillows from Minted. I didn’t even know Minted carried pillows but what I discovered — that worked perfectly for us — is that each fabric can be created in five pillow sizes, and there are often multiple colors in each print. While I love Homegoods, Pottery Barn, West Elm, Joss & Main and others, I can often find myself crying in frustration looking for a super specific item (I’m so Type A). This honestly made it so much easier and it’s super reasonable, particularly considering your purchase is nearly a custom order.
Anyway, I digress. I always get excited by a fun find like that! Check out a few fun examples of how pillows make the space, for a variety of styles. One rule of thumb I learned with pillows: it’s all about the odd numbers. So 3, 5, etc — much more visually appealing — and don’t be afraid to mix prints to create a more personal effect. I can’t imagine spending $300 on a pillow (nuts), particularly with kids, so if I don’t love the print in a year, peace out.
Fun, affordable pillow finds here (many have multiple colors, sizes):
