Alyson’s Current Favorites // May 2019

Nothing like posting this on the very last day of the month, and the last day of the school year. But hey… made the deadline! Today’s the last day of the school year; I can’t believe as of 2 pm, Sarah officially will be a fourth grader and Evan a kindergartener. Insert me crying ugly tears. We are quickly transitioning into summer mode and I’m just trying to keep up. I’ve been purchasing up a storm lately to get Sarah ready for her first summer at sleep-away camp, to refresh everyone’s closets, and update some things around the home.

MUST WATCH: Dead to Me

If you’re looking for a new show, you definitely need to watch the new Netflix show, Dead to Me. Starring Christina Appelgate and James Marsden, the plot follows Applegate’s character, Jen, as she tries to solve who killed her husband in a hit-and-run. It’s juicy, entertaining, mysterious and all the things and has been one of the shows everyone has been commenting about anytime asks, “tell me what I need to binge watch next!” Get in your cozies and get ready… this is a good one.

SUMMER TREND: The clear bag

Clear bags have been around for years, perhaps started by stadium rules but now there are SO many cute ones that are so on trend and fun for summer. Plus, you can get them at such a great price. I recently snagged this one on Amazon, which comes with a chain cross-body strap. It fits a shocking amount, is so cute, is about $20, and has multiple color options for the interior pouch (which is removable). On this same product page, there’s another style that’s also really cool and a little bit more “trendy.”

MUST LISTEN: Oprah Super Soul Conversation with Marie Forleo

Are you a podcast girl? I’ve been listening to such a crazy range of them lately and this one by Marie Forleo on Oprah’s Super Soul Conversations really struck a cord. She shared how “everything is figureoutable,” the basis of her book which comes out in September (you can pre-order it here). While she’s apparently a big deal and you already might know about her she’s new to me but I am so into her energy and perspective. If you’re not into podcasts, watch her talk here on Facebook. It’s really good and has stuck with me for weeks.

MUST WEAR: Madewell denim

I’ve been hearing for ages that Madewell denim is where it’s at… I get it now. I got this pair in my most recent Trunk Club (the Nordstrom subscription box; my only win this time) and I’m so into the lighter wash, the button-front style and super flattering fit (embarrassing to say but seriously, they make the tush look good!). Here they are in the light wash, in white, and in faded black, and here’s all Madewell denim if you’re curious about shorts and other options. They run TTS; I’m wearing a size 26 (awkward to share, but it’s a common question when you guys are ordering).

BEAUTY FIND: Bare Minerals lip

When I was at the Beachwaver photo shoot, all the women, including the makeup artists, were sharing their love of the Bare Minerals Gen Nude Patent Liquid Lipstick. It’s highly pigmented with this gorgeous high-impact shine that’s not sticky or drying, and really stays. I really wanted the color IRL but it was sold out until recently — back now! It’s a gorgeous neutral that worked on every one of us — but you can see in the image how they’re all such gorgeous shades. I got Boy Toy and love its gorgeous pinky vibe; IRL and Dahling are next on my list.
