I never thought we’d be a cruise-loving family — possibly because Adam tends to get sea sick! — but it’s been such an easy way to travel as a family, with little planning and built-in activities, and lots of flexibility and convenience since we already live near ports. Plus, Adam wears a little patch behind his ear and we’re ready to roll!
We went on the Royal Caribbean Independence of the Seas during spring break; we did a Disney cruise last year (here are my best tips before cruising by the way). and while we preferred the Disney experience, we had a blast and particularly enjoyed going with a family family friends.
So what to wear? Think resort style & don’t overthink it! Keep it casual daytime, with plenty of bathing suits and cover-ups, and for evening, think breezy dresses, white denim or all white outfits, even dressy shorts and tops. I wear these wedges every single night, and bought them in white because they’re the perfect summer wedge (great price, super comfortable, flattering, etc).
A few things to consider packing: gym clothes and sneakers; rubbery flip flops that won’t get ruined at the beach (I have these); sweatshirt or cardigan; leggings or pants for the kiddos (our ship had an ice skating rink and kids had to wear pants!), plenty of sunscreen, travel scissors (random but so useful!), and a tote you can use during excursions (if you brought an LV or nice bag you don’t want to schlep it everywhere).

Image above: bikini from Amazon (under $25), and below… because I can’t resist nachos, ever! 😉

Beach day in Cozumel, outfits c/o Cabana Life
Alyson: Cover-up (love!) // bikini top, and bottom (full coverage) and blue striped tote (great deal, holds so much & packable); also Alexandra Gioia earrings and Havaianas flip flops in rose gold
Evan and Adam: Evan suit and rash guard set // Adam’s bathing suit
Image above: BaubleBar heart earrings // J. Crew Factory scalloped tank (I have in two colors)
Crochet bathing suit cover-up (under $20) // star necklace
Outfit above: Shashi wood hoop earrings (incredible & ultra light weight) and wedges // two-piece set from local boutique, Lola Chiq. I love, love supporting local businesses and Lola Chiq at Downtown at the Gardens is definitely a favorite, in addition to Vagabond for more brands you know
Wheh, so there you have it! This is for sure not all encompassing but it gives you a good sense of what I wore on the cruise — lots of whites, brights, light-weight fabrics and fun earrings to amp up basically any outfit.
Here’s images for most items seen above, along with a few other items I brought or own and would be great for summer and tropical travel:
