I’ve been really into the idea of a wider leg crop pant (perhaps you call them culottes) but my petite self (I’m 5″3) never felt like I could pull them off. That’s changed though after seeing so many women of various heights and sizes in my Instagram feed rocking them.
I ordered this floral pair at Anthropologie, half assuming they’d look horrendous and sort of stupid. Nope. It was love at first sight (or try on?). The print with flattering side stripe detail, not too-wide-wide leg, and super soft feel, sold me. Plus, they’ve been a great, lighter weight alternative to jeans.
I’ll be sharing in the next few days a blog post with images of other women rocking wide leg pants . What you’ll notice when it comes to wearing a wider leg cropped pant, jean or trouser is that it’s all about proportion.
A few tips how to best style your cropped wide leg pants:
Wear a slimmer silhouette on top to show off your shape.
Define your waist, either by tucking or knotting a longer shirt, or wear a cropped top that meets the top of your pants.
Consider footwear: you’d be surprised that sneakers and slides can be just as flattering as a heel. Try a few options to see what makes you feel best.
Pay attention to length: too short and they’ll look like capris or longer shorts, and too long and they’ll look like your pants are a weird in between length. Aim for somewhere between your calf muscle and two inches above your ankle.
