Sometimes you realize for all the clothes you have, something is missing. For me, that’s updated casual dresses — well casual dresses that have some versatility to be worn day or night. I have plenty of impractical dressier dresses perfect for weddings and showers but it wasn’t until I saw a stylish good friend (shout out to Shira!) rocking an awesome Madewell find (some really good Madewell dresses are here and at Nordstrom) that I realized my closet had nothing like that. Of course, a few days late I stumble across this… totally answering all the “I have nothing to wear” feelings.
As the temperatures heat up, being able to toss on one stylish item with basically any pair or shoes in your closet makes for a serious VIP. I can get stuck — even with the versatile items — wearing an item the exact same way so I thought I’d show you how to take a dress like this, which by the way is SO insanely soft and cozy, and hello, POCKETS, yup it has POCKETS (yay!), and wear it with three totally different pairs of shoes… pineapple sandals, converse & wedges; all that go with most in each of our closets.
PS: want to mention sizing on this dress because I’m wearing a small in all of these pictures (except the last one); after looking it up online I saw it is available in petite and decided to test it out. I love the petite small sizing much more (I’m 5’3) so I kept the petite and that’s what you see me wearing in the last image from my brother’s rehearsal dinner. It’s not much shorter, just has a bit narrower (though still breezy) feel through the mid-section, which creates a bit of a more flattering silhouette for me.
SHOP THE POST:
DRESS: Anthropologie (wearing small in photos; and petite small in photo below and like the fit much more through my mid-section)
ACCESSORIES: Necklace set: BaubleBar // Ring: BaubleBar // Beaded bracelets: Alexandra Gioia
WEDGES: Steve Madden via DSW (available in three colors) // Clutch: Mariella Vilar (more fun clutches here)
SNEAKERS: Converse (slip-on style; runs big, go 1/2 size down) // Purse: Ann Taylor (older; similar) // Sunglasses: Ray-Ban
SANDALS: c/o Talbots // Tote: Tory Burch (older; similar or this, and love this multi-color jute tote under $60)
Psssttttt: I also wore this dress to my brother’s casual rehearsal dinner last month, and shared this photo below. I LOVED it with these fringe sandals (that are just $23!):

June 11, 2017 at 8:33 PMThanks, Amy… so easy to get used to wearing the same items over and over the same way, so it’s fun to mix it up.

June 7, 2017 at 5:09 PMThat’s my current closet story as well! I don’t have enough casual dresses. The temperatures were rising here in Holland and I just couldn’t find a dress to wear to work. I only have these fancy or really tight dresses… Where were your pictures taken? It looks like your on vacation! I adore the scenery! Also, you look very beautiful as well 😀 Have a lovely week!
