It’s time to embrace the brights! As you might have seen on Instagram or Facebook, I had the immense honor of meeting iconic designer, Trina Turk, and hosting her spring fashion show last month at Bloomingdale’s at The Gardens Mall (#pinchme). First and most importantly, she’s amazingly nice and kind and gracious. I don’t know why we assume big names might not be but her down-to-earth vibe was immediately felt by all. She stayed until the very end, chatted about her afternoon plans and talked graciously about building her brand, how its evolved, and how she adapts each pattern based on each textile and item (so interesting).
Most of us know the Trina Turk brand, from her bathing suits that make everyone look good — she said this season this one has been hugely popular, with women styling it as a bodysuit for date nights, too! — to her classic palazzo pants and now dresses, caftans and shorts that flatter women in just the right way. This hot pink silk blouse and shorts are more in the “investment” category, worthy pieces that you continually gravitate toward because they make you feel good. I’m learning with age that I rather buy one good blouse instead of four meh ones. Temptation of a sale or fashion fashion remains, but quality usually prevails.
Trina is a California girl who loves a bold print and color. I get that’s not for everyone…. and it can be hard to get used to. Hey, I used to only wear blue. Pink never happened until I was 26! A great tip she shared is to focus on integrating color and prints in small doses. For example, her handbags or clutches (the totes are beautiful & fun) are the perfect place to start.
Proof you can even go out dancing in these… incase you were wondering. 😉

Bloomingdale’s at The Gardens Mall carries a wide assortment of Trina Turk (ask for Samantha; she’s the best!), and the brand’s bathing suits and jewelry can be online. For more from the event, including looks from the fashion show, visit the blog, Local Mom Scoop.
And here are two extra photos… this one with the fabulously talented, Trina Turk.
And, who doesn’t love a fitting room selfie? This is Shira (a must follow on Insta for home decor, @shirabessinteriors), and Erica (who was also here!). Shira is wearing the caftan, the same as Trina and one of the brand’s most popular styles each season, and Erica is wearing the striped off-the-shoulder blouse, which we all agreed is one of the collections biggest winners… insanely soft, stays put and goes with everything.

May 3, 2017 at 9:25 AMYou are too cute, as usual! Love this look and such a pretty backdrop! I think patterned shorts can be a little scary sometimes since they make such a statement, but styled well (like this), they can totally look chic.
