Wearing black is easy. It’s safe. It’s flattering. It’s chic. It’s all of those things, and yet to me, it’s often, blah. (sorry).
I get it, the LBD became an acronym for good reason but there’s also value in standing out from the crowd. I love that girl who chooses a bright color at a wedding or holiday party. She feels fierce and owns it. While it’s not for all the time, and not for everyone, I’m finding every day that standing out from the crowd even in small ways can reap major rewards. Can you tell we’re not just talking about style here?
This form-fitting emerald green number is a bold decision for me. I don’t really do form fitting, and for years, I never worn green. While redheads supposedly look fab in green, I always felt like a Christmas tree. Lol, yup, I’m crazy! I discovered though in the range of greens that emerald complements my hair and skin tone. For each of us, it can take time but take time to discover what colors best complement your hair and skin, and what dress shapes flaunt your assets. Every outfit decision shares a bit of someone’s personality and if you’re going bold, the better the fit, the more confident you’ll be. On that note, don’t be shy (or stingy — been there) about minor alterations. They make budget buys look like total wow’s.
I shared yesterday a dozen gorgeous dresses perfect for this holiday season/winter — yup, there are some beautiful black options but I’m nudging you to pick something a little bolder. And, hey, if it’s black — look for a cool option with lace, velvet, texture, dimension. Stand out from the crowd. Make a statement.

December 17, 2016 at 9:37 AMYou look stunning & I love your blog. It’s a perfect combination of green dress matching with your handbag & black high heels. One should wear bold colors more often. Although, you are absolutely right by saying that colors do depict your personality and makes you confident. November 30, 2016 at 2:12 PMI think this dress looks lovely on you and you are right to want to stand out, even just a little. I always stayed away from owning a black coat because I’d always think of the holidays when everyone’s coats would be piled on a bed and it was just this huge mass of black and my bright red or houndstooth or whatever. It’s good to be a little different. Not that a little black dress is a bad thing, I can’t wait for my velvet one to arrive!

November 30, 2016 at 9:49 AMThe LBD is fine, but at the end of the day I’m like…..another black dress? YAY SO ORIGINAL! Although I do appreciate a good LBD, but I really love a classic red dress!

November 30, 2016 at 9:40 AMYou look gorgeous in this dress (legs for days!) and that green is such a perfect color for this time of year! I definitely agree that people need to challenge themselves to go beyond a simple LBD. It’s a little scary to go bold, but if you pick a flattering silhouette and feel good in what you’re wearing, that will totally empower you!
