A college friend, Natalie, has always had great taste — she has a background doing product development for Gap & Old Navy’s baby, toddler and girl hair, accessories & jewelry, among other cool jobs, and now has the cutest Etsy shop! — so it’s no surprise her baby girl’s room is perfection. As soon as I saw a few photos of her little girl, Bowie Layla’s contemporary cool (yet totally fun and newborn appropriate!) nursery, I neeeeeeded to see more. You can tell every detail has been thoughtfully created as she waited to meet her little girl. Natalie graciously agreed to let me share her nursery here on TAGG and while home tours are not typical here this room is too awesome not to share. Love how so many pieces are perfect for such a variety of rooms, for cool girls of all ages. Learn more how the room came together, in Natalie’s words….
We found out that I was pregnant two days after moving into a new apartment, and just like that, the room we planned to be an office became a nursery. After I got the news that we were having a girl, I wanted to design something that was fun, and not babyish, that she could grow into.
I started with the tie dye rug from Anthropologie, that I had already been eyeing to put in the room before I was pregnant. I love tie dye, and love black and white, so when I found it 40% off the sale price last Thanksgiving, I had to buy it! The hot pink heart print, from Banquet Atelier & Workshop, was part of a Design Sponge’s Quarterly box last Summer, so that’s where the idea of hearts came from. I wanted to do a trio over the crib, and found Banquet’s same heart in black…then stumbled upon the gold heart mirror from PBTeen.
Some VERY nice friends handed down the awesome Spot on Square acrylic crib, which really helped to dictate the other furniture we bought. I am in love with our glider from Room & Board, which my mom and her best friends bought for me as a baby gift. As soon as I saw the sneak peeks of Oh Joy’s Spring line, I knew I’d want that awesome neon heart light and heart shaped ottoman.
I searched for a jewelry-inspired mobile and found one with AK Studio, which really adds something special to the room, and is a nod to my past jobs in the jewelry product development world.
There are a lot of things in the room that I have made including the thread wrapped antlers and mini dreamcatchers, as well as the tie dyed swaddle that Bowie is wrapped in (I have an ETSY shop called Canteen by Natalie and sell these, as well as tie dyed home goods, burp cloths, swaddles and onesies).
I used to work at the Gap doing product development/sourcing for Gap and Old Navy baby, toddler and girls hair accessories and jewelry, so I have a ton of headbands and bows that I’ve just been waiting to put on a little girl. In the meantime, they are displayed in glass jars on the dresser, and flower pots on the bookshelf. Also in the room are a bunch of stuffed animals and vinyl toys from when I did production at kidrobot.
The “vintage” collection of Dr.Seuss books on the bookshelves were mine as a child, and the sequin crown was from my very first dance recital when I was three!
