Lessons My Mother Taught Me:

Mother’s Day is right around the corner so for a fun twist on my weekly Friday outfit posts, I’m so honored to welcome my mama, Phyllis, to The Modern Savvy (you might recognize her name as the doting “fan” on my Facebook page! 😉 ).

I know mother-daughter style posts are often those with my mini me, but we are thrilled to partner with Maggy London to show you how we style the beautiful Valentina lace sheath, and that Maggy London has provided this amazing opportunity for me to honor such a loving, hardworking woman who has shaped my life.

I was thinking about all the lessons my mother taught me — after all, I have 38 years of memories! When thinking about it, she has taught me so many invaluable lessons about kindness and yes, of course style (I remember her having the best outfits, and still does!), yet it’s what she hasn’t said that perhaps has been most impactful: her work ethic and focus on putting family first is everything, and is likely a large part of my drive and priorities today.

I recall when I was young, she went from being a stay-at-home-mom to taking an entry level sales job and working her way up in order to help support our family during a time of transition. Not only did she take that job, she met and beat goals, got promotions and awards (and won free trips!), and continues to be a professional rock star today. She does all of this while always focusing on supporting and being present for family. Now that’s a role model! Happy early mother’s day to my beautiful mom!
