Blast From the Past: The Navy Skirt (+ How to Transition from Work to Happy Hour)

Florida blogger and mom shares her work outfit inspiration // the modern savvy

I’m excited to be back with another “Blast from the Past” outfit, where I share you how I remix an older item in my closet. Bloggers can be notorious for constantly talking about new, new, new and while it’s nice to refresh our wardrobes, and I absolutely love to share with you a great deal, it’s also important to consider how you can diversify and re-wear what you already own.

This navy skirt is an old favorite from LOFT that I realized I haven’t worn recently, and while it’s super versatile, I often pair it with pinks, whites or a floral print tank I have. I own NOTHING in yellow — legit nothing — yet I was somehow really, really drawn to this blouse. It’s different for me and can easily transition to other seasons, and can work for work or nights out.

In the summer, it’s fun to do a happy hour after work so it’s important to consider your outfit as you get dressed. In this instance, pair your classic skirt (or a pencil skirt), a professional yet stylish blouse (avoid anything too low-cut or back cut-outs, unless you’re wearing a blazer), and a strappier pair of sandals. These work in most office environments due to the lower heel and lack of embellishment. Every office environment is different so worse case, wear your pumps and pop an extra pair of fun shoes in your car to swap out later. That’s what I did with the clutch and swapping it for the tote instantly makes me ready for cocktails with the girls (assuming Adam gets home in time to watch the kids!).

Swap out my studs for bold earrings, and my tote for a cute clutch (that can also be stored inside your work bag), and you’re ready for after-work dinner and drinks! #callthebabysitter

You look so good in yellow & I am loving this color combination! Also, tempted by those earrings – how heavy are they?

Thanks so much, Kim! And, the earrings are insanely light weight…. I’m equally super sensitive to that.
