Outfit: A Modern Spin on a Classic Look

Eyelet and stripes for work // the modern savvy

Ever since I started working from home my denim collection has gotten a lot more use … and my “work wardrobe” a lot less. However there are definitely some days when this working mama needs to dress up a bit, so it’s critical to have a few key items in your wardrobe. Three key pieces:

  1. Detailed blouses: I have waaaayyyy too many ok/basic/neutral/classic (insert any word) tops but not enough that I think stand on their own, which is why I immediately gravitated toward this gorgeous Banana Republic striped eyelet number during a recent sale. Add a blazer for a more formal spin, make it date night sexy with black denim and hot pink heels, or tuck it into a pencil skirt. Basically, look for blouses with personality.
  2. Great slacks (or skirts): I’m way more of a pants person than a skirt person… likely a result of seeing the kids during the day, and oh, I like to sit at my desk with my legs crossed like I’m four years old. 😉 Having a few key pairs of slacks are necessary. My current favorites include this pair by Banana Republic, chinos from J. Crew Factory or Gap, and wide leg trousers from LOFT.
  3. Nude and black heels: Have a pair of perfect nude heels? They’re necessary. Here’s why: they’re super versatile, go with everything and can lighten a traditionally more fall look compared to your typical black Sounds silly but I never thought to do this until a former colleague always would… a simple change that has a modern, fresh feel. I recently got this pair by Sam Edelman, which has stellar reviews, and they’re really comfortable for a decent heel (they also come in a gazillion colors).

LOVE that top – I had it in my cart during the sale, but then talked myself out of it because I already have quite a bit of lace in my closet. So pretty on you!!
