Two Ways to Wear: Bomber Jacket Day to Night

The Modern Savvy styles two ways to wear a bomber jacket.

Now that we’re in February, I’m totally in spring style mode. Bomber jackets have been a huge trend the past year but the nerdy 90’s girl in me hasn’t been able to pull the trigger. Until, this! I stopped by curate clothes + accessories — a fantastic little boutique near me in North Palm Beach — which is known for a cool, interesting mix of apparel and accessories, all from US brands. I was chatting with owner and  friend, Kerry, about how we could collaborate and as soon as I saw this cool take on a bomber with its beautiful mixed media silk/cotton combo I immediately saw infinite possibilities.

A jacket like this by Lola and Sophie that thankfully omits that thick elastic banding like typical bomber will easily get a ton of wear in your closet. A few good jackets and “toppers” are so helpful as you go through seasons and from day to night. Let’s check out two ways to style it!

FIRST LOOK:

A quality striped dress is a women’s wardrobe essential at all ages and life points. This one by Amour Vert (meaning Green Love in French; the idea that fashion and sustainability can co-exist) drapes beautifully, smoothes over any bumps, and is so insanely soft. Like you think you’re wearing pjs-soft yet you’re out in public. It’s amazing.  For a weekend on the run, add a delicate necklace, a crossbody that’s as functional as it fun, and a pair of comfy Converse. Plus, swap out the accessories for a clutch (ps: this crossbody I’m obsessed with converts to a foldover clutch — NEED!), and strappy heels… now you have a killer evening look.

Ok, one more critical accessory… a serious dose of caffeine! That’s what gets the biggest smiles! #allthecoffee

The details on this bag are everything, right? The tassel, the velvet weaved detailing, the printed fabric. It’s the kind of statement purse that makes every outfit better.

DATE NIGHT (OR GIRL’S NIGHT OUT, HOLLA!)

When it comes to date night, the go-to pairing lately is a silky off-the-shoulder along with jeans that make you feel smokin’ hot. Like this pair by L.A.-based JET by John Eshaya. Look for ones that do wonders for your tush… the lightning pocket details are so good, and the distressed zipper hem is totally on point. They’re best for petites… I’m 5’3 and they are the perfect crop length.

Layering necklaces is a fun way to give your current jewelry a fresh feel. Try pairing a daintier shorter chain with a longer one, like styled below.

Tassel details on a luxe leather clutch. This one is by a brand called YOLU… the entire collection is inspired by the weaving traditions of the indigenous people of Colombia, and is handcrafted at the brand’s Florida studio.

So there you have it… two ways to work the bomber, with each of these items being wardrobe workhorses. Is that expression weird? You know what I mean. It’s all about the less-is-more with good quality pieces that fit you will and make you feel good. Once you have that covered, it’s fun to throw in some fast fashion trendier pieces that will work for a season or two. If you’re local, be sure to stop by curate to check it out for yourself.

Love both of these, but that first look is totally adorable – great for the weekend/mom duty, but still interesting & put together. Great job!!
