The Great Nespresso Debate (Do I Need One?)

Nespresso machine options

This is in no way sponsored…. I need your help! 🙂

I’ve heard the chatter about the game-changing nature of Nespresso for a few years but have to confess it was kind of just noise to me. I love a latte and cappuccino, but not enough that I felt like I needed a professional machine in my home. Sure, every so often would be great but I certainly don’t need to feed my caffeine addiction. Plus, we love our Keurig and my dark roast coffee pods make me pretty happy each morning.

But I went to lunch with my girlfriend, Adele, the other day and she said she was in the market for a Nespresso and heard they had samples at Bloomingdale’s. Long story short, the store created this monster Nespresso zone with all the product, along with full-size samples of the espresso along with COFFEE. Wait, hold up… Nespresso machines made coffee?! I had no idea! My ears — and taste buds — perked up.

Bloomies was/is also having a mega promo — take 30 percent off, and then an additional 25% off — so I tried the coffee (plus, I don’t decline free samples — at Costco or at Bloomies!). I don’t love Starbucks original blend, I find it burnt tasting; but this flavor carried the boldness with a smoothness that can be hard to find. Made from the brand’s VertuoLine machine, it created the coffee with an espresso style crema at the top (very professional, I have to say!). Plus, this newer machine style can use two size pods — both for coffee and a limited number of the brand’s espressos as well.

The version I’m looking at comes with a Aeroccino, which creates hot or cold fresh milk froth for your coffee recipes, in a few seconds, without noise or vibration, and can also heat milk for your Caffè Latte or Cappuccino. There’s also a smaller version that comes sans frother.

I’ve learned Nespresso has no less than 15-20 machines but here’s the basic breakdown of the four major types:

Nespresso CitiZ: espresso only making machines. These are pretty compact, come with or without a milk frother, a few color options. Most popular.

Nespresso Pixie: also espresso only, and with or without a milk frother; major difference is a smaller water reservoir.

Nespresso Inissia: most budget friendly, the main difference that it’s made mostly with plastic parts instead of stainless steel or aluminum.

Nespresso Virtuoline: newest option; a combo coffee maker and espresso machine. It also uses Virtuoline only pods (not the Nespresso original ones).

So help: do I NEED this? Do you have one at home and find it to be a game changer in your caffeine routine?  Would love to hear from you.

It’s a game changer. We have had Keurigs, Tassimo’s, and currently have a vertuo and a pixie. The coffee and the espresso offerings are just better than with the other machines. It’s definelty a little bit of luxury on your countertop.

Wait, it’s even a debate?? My nespresso was freakin LIFE changing. My mornings are sooooo much better since getting a few months ago. I had iced lattes in the summer and I’m loving my hot lattes now. Pure heaven. It’s not even a question- it’s an absolute neccesity. We have the citiz with the frother.

HA, your response cracked me up, girl, and YAY… we got the one that makes both coffee and espressos, plus the frother (because what’s the point otherwise, right?!) 🙂

I just got a nedpresso inissia with milk frother as an early xmas gift. I had a keurig and I am a coffee addict. I like the speed and easy clean up of the keurig but had tried nespresso and was amazed. I have to say the coffee is so much better, it is worth every penny and the machine runs much better. I make myself a cappuccino every morning and I feel like a queen. It actually makes me want to ditch the keurig and switch to French press for mornings I want straight coffee and just drink excellent coffee all the time. Go for it!!!

Check out Spinn, that makes every coffee drink you could want mess free! It’s only on preorder now, but they’re running some amazing deals right now! It won’t be here until April 2017, but we just bought one of our house (and we have unlimited access to coffee and espresso machines). p.s. I know where you can find some great coffee that isn’t at all burnt!!!

I have had a Nespresso for a couple of years and, yes, you absolutely need one! And definitely get the frother as well. It is a total game-changer.

I am wondering the same thing! I have a Keurig, but I can’t make lattes or cappuccinos with it and I would like to because with my Keurig, in order for me to enjoy coffee is to add flavored creamer, which each tablespoon is about 6 grams of sugar! With a latte or cappuccino, I don’t need sugar. Regular coffee just tastes like dirty water to me. lol Please include an update when you decide!
