Master Bedroom Mini Makeover: The After

This post is brought to you by Valspar paint.

I mentioned to you guys a few weeks ago that I recently had a home fail when I accidentally picked a gray paint color that ultimately was way too light for our bedroom. We get so much light in our room that our walls looked white; I didn’t want it to be a very dark grey — our office and guest room (seen here) is a dark charcoal gray — so we wanted a relaxing, soft gray to complement our surroundings.

I headed straight to Lowe’s, where the line of Valspar Zero VOC* paint is sold exclusively, to pick out this gorgeous gray you can see here. I hope you can see the contrast in the before and after because we are so much happier with this few-shades-darker gray. The coolest part, though, is what you can’t see: no smell or odor. Candidly, I was surprised at the difference compared to the recent painting experiences I mentioned, when the fumes had been terrible. I didn’t like it for myself, and certainly didn’t want my little ones breathing that in.

Not only is my room on the way to fab — I still have more work to do – but this has also been such an interesting learning experience. I take great pride in seeking out healthier alternatives in food and skincare, so I appreciate when a company can make such a ‘green’ forward step to provide a better alternative for my family and my community. I can now have quality without compromise, a beautiful new room with great coverage and without the harsh fumes. Visit your local Lowe’s to find a color you’ll love; paint (ok, and pillows!) is the quickest way to update your space.

Ok, so the rest of this room… I’d kill for new white furniture, a tufted headboard and we definitely need some benches in front of our bed, and even some additional artwork, but, all in time. We’ve been focusing on renovating our family and living rooms, and we’re currently building a pool, so I’m taking baby steps in the rest of our spaces for now. In the interim, this mini update was a fantastic opportunity to clean up our side tables (plus, I miraculously convinced my husband to ditch his awful-looking 1993 alarm clock so happy dance for that!).    See the artwork below? It’s our ketubah, the Jewish marriage contract we signed 12 years ago this August. We loved the woven symbolism combined with the colors of day and night.

And, the photo below on the right is one of the best memories of my life. It’s when Sarah met our son, Evan, for the first time at the hospital. Without hesitation, she held out her hands, held him tightly and kissed him on the forehead. She loves him more each day, if that’s even possible.

Looks great! Good to know about the paint from Lowe’s having no voc. We bought Benjamin Moore paint that has no voc and it was great. We are looking at getting quotes for a pool. Do u have anyone you would recommend?

Hey there! Are you local to the Palm Beach County area? We used RHR Pools out of Jupiter I believe and were really happy with the result. Quite a few of our friends have used them as well.

The photo of your children brought me back to Evan’s coming home story and melted my heart………… #happytears
I’m a huge fan of gray paint and I love how the shade pairs with your mirrored furniture. Very nice!
