Nordstrom Anniversary Sale + Giveaway Preview

Ladies, my favorite sale of the year is quickly approaching: the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I thought I’d talk about it because it’s evident you ladies like a good deal as much as you (just one of the many reasons I love you all!).  Hope this doesn’t come across sale-sy because I kind of think of this as a PSA (haha, maybe I’m a little crazy) and also, because I wanted to spice things up with a little thank you giveaway, too.

It’s been too long since my last giveaway and since this sale makes me abundantly happy I wanted to make one of you equally so — with $100 gift card to Nordstrom that I’ll be doing on Instagram later this week. It’s not sponsored by the store, just me saying thank you for you supporting this site and me. As much as I’m a word girl, words will never express the gratitude I have for each of you. So, instead of words… gift card! Follow me at @avggirlsguide, and stay tuned later this week here and on my social channels for my top sale picks.

Ok, so what exactly is the #nSale?

Even though we’re deep in summer mode (seriously, sweating my face off) you can save up to 40% on fall/winter clothes, shoes and accessories for you, your kiddies, your guy, anyone. For this Florida girl, it’s always been more about getting deals on new shoes (also for back-to-school!), boots, light-weight jackets or cardigans, new purse or wallet, workout gear and lounge wear. Yeah, there are amazing deals on coats and sweaters and all that stuff but it’s so hot out and two, I learned that for me it’s better to only buy heavier pieces when I need it, not in case I do.

When is it?

The sale starts early for Nordstrom card holders… this Thursday!  Personally, we only had twocredit cards and pay them off monthly but I finally convinced my husband last summer to get the Nordstrom card (they also have a debit, if you prefer) because 1. you can shop the sale EARLY; some of the best finds sell out before the sale opens to the public, and that super sucks. 2. You earn “Nordstrom Notes,” which is basically cash for future purchases. I’ve definitely benefitted from the Notes. 😉 I’m not encouraging you to sign up for a card if you don’t need one (or can’t pay it off each month) but if you do decide, you get a $10 certificate to using during the sale, and you also earn 2 points per dollar at Nordstrom Rack and HauteLook. Get the scoop here.

The sale opens to card holders on July 14, and to the public July 22. Prices go up August 8.

What are the best finds?

It’s honestly what you need; don’t get lured in by good prices, it’s never worth it (though at least they have a kick-ass return policy! I seriously returned an August purchase last November after realizing I didn’t need it/wouldn’t wear it). Add a new fall shoe to your wardrobe (think a block heel!), a drapy cardigan or jacket (I LOVE the army green one above that’s under $60), a new pair of workout leggings or sports bra, fresh pjs… that’s the best stuff. The things you’ll wear for sure.  I’m also looking for new sneakers for my kids plus a few new button downs for Adam.

Have any questions? I’ll be back later this week with my favorite picks. I think the sale might have been better in previous years however there are certainly a number of great buys — loving those over-the-knee boots, for example! — if you’re looking for something specific (I know my friend is ready to scoop up the on-sale Tory Burch hobo bag — it’s gorgeous).

Plus, I’m generally a fan of Nordstrom because it’a ALWAYS free shipping, they have an excellent return policy (seriously, it’s really generous if anything happens ever), and they have a wide variety of sizes from petite to plus.

Ok, sale rant/PSA over. 😉 Have a great week, and don’t forget to follow me at @avggirlsguide for a chance to win $100 gift card.

Sometimes I find the sale a bit overrated and tiring. I’ve never actually bought anything from the sales haha so we shall see!

You’ll have to let me know what you think…. I usually opt for more of the accessories and then the workout gear is great if you need anyway!

As much as I love the NSale I have to be so careful. Living here in Florida I hardly need all the things I see so many bloggers highlighting. I agree with what you said about getting those heavier items when we need them rather than in case we need them. I’ll shop shoes and accessories but I feel like I’m missing out on the fun because of the sweltering heat box I live in! Womp, womp, womp!

Haha, womp womp! So true — wait until we post a photo of palm trees in December and then we’ll see who’s envious. 😉
