Movie Review: Mother’s Day

This post is sponsored by the theatrical release of Mother’s Day, in theaters everywhere Friday.

It’s one thing to celebrate Mother’s Day growing up. I love my mom more than anything and I’m lucky she now lives close by. It’s another thing when you become a mom and can fully reflect about what motherhood really is. Ok, let’s be honest, who has time to stop and reflect? Mom life is the crazy life. And, yet, I do find moments where I stop and pause, and appreciate such joy and eternal love.

Motherhood is beautiful, humbling and despite frustrating days, has grown and filled my heart in unimaginable ways. Kisses from my little girl or boy, or seeing them hold hands (they are so sweet together), are everything, and who ever thought I could just sit and stare at someone’s sweet face sleeping? Fact: I can. It’s that fine line between enjoying the peace and loving them so much I want to wake them up to cuddle them to pieces. One of my favorite parts of Mother’s Day is when my little ones make me a special art projects and bring me breakfast in bed. It’s not the food or quality of the art, it’s that sweet moment of pride on their faces when they bring it to me, and give me the biggest hug. It’s just honest, uncomplicated love. I want to hold on to it forever.

Yet I get as we get older, relationships evolve and are not always so easy. Enter, this must-see film.

There’s a new, big-hearted rom com — I seriously love a good rom com! — called Mother’s Day that embraces all the complicated, humorous and interesting dynamics of family and motherhood. With an all-star ensemble cast to celebrate mom’s everywhere, Mother’s Day intertwines the stories of dynamic women played by, you know, names you might have heard of… Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Garner, Kate Hudson and more.

Mother's Day Movie with Julia Roberts and Jennifer Anison

Whether you’re a new mom, a divorced mom dealing with changing family dynamics, or one who has a complicated relationship with your mother or mother-in-law, there’s a story line that resonates with each of us. You’re brought into the film the week leading up to Mother’s Day, where it’s immediately evident that moms don’t sleep, sometimes let their kids eat sand, love their little babes more than anything (no matter what age), and definitely need their mom tribe for support to make it through each day.

Worth seeing? Yup! While I’ve candidly seen better rom coms – it’s solid, with laughs, sweet moments and simply the fun of this cast together. Did I mention Jason Sudekis? He’s great in the film.

Mother’s Day comes out this Friday, April 29 and would make for such a fun date with your mom, sisters or friends. Tip: I use the Fandango app on my phone to order tickets — helps my Type A personality feel secure we have our seats.

COME CELEBRATE THE MOTHER OF ALL HOLIDAYS.

They filmed pieces of that movie in my neighborhood. Needless to say, we’ll be going to see it. Glad to hear it’s pretty decent storyline-wise as well. 😉
