How to Dress Up Distressed Denim

Distressed denim continues to be everywhere, and I’m loving the creative, fresh ways women of all ages have been wearing them. While perhaps originally for younger women, this chic look flatters all ages and body types.

Pinterest is full of women rockin’ the distressed denim with a casual vibe… slouchy and perfect for on-the-go with a striped tee, and converse, or a cozy oversized cable knit and low booties. Now, the look is to take them from day to night (or even your office, depending on attire). The key is the footwear: up your game with pointy pumps, sexy strappy heels or even a super sharp flat. It immediately takes it from sporty to chic. While you’re at it, swap out your oversized tote for a sleek clutch or smaller cross body.

Unsure about the look? Find a slimming “boyfriend” style so you don’t add perceived weight, and please, don’t go crazy with distressing. While runways and 20-something fashion bloggers might rock it, it’s really not practical and it can be hard to pull off. My favorite brands, in any color (I’m loving black right now!) are this, this and this, and I just splurged on this pair (but when it was on sale, and with credits!).

Great ideas! I always paired my distressed denim with just a tank or t-shirt. It’s nice to see you can be a little bit more dressed up while wearing them!

I have to admit, I’m so hesitant to try distressed denim! Maybe it’s because when I’m wearing pants, I usually am trying to keep warm, or that I’ve spent so much time patching my boyfriend’s jeans!

Either way, I’m getting a serious urge to try a slightly distressed style now that I’m seeing this collage of different stylings!

I love the distressed denim paired with the sequined top. Nothing dresses it up more than that in my opnion. :]

Such great inspiration! I’m not sure if I even own any Dunham anymore that’s not distressed!
