Movie Review: The Intern

My girls’ movie club (similar to a book club, just way more popcorn!) is back in full effect. The best part is that we went to one of those cool new VIP theaters with seats that recline, and wine, and dinner, and did I mention wine? Such a fun experience. Now, to the review…

The Intern

Earlier this week we saw a matinee of The Intern, a film co-starring Anne Hathaway and Robert DeNiro.  In the film, 70-something Ben Whittaker (DeNiro) applies for a “senior internship” at an up-and-coming fashion web site, owned by Jules Ostin (Hathaway), after realizing retirement life can get a little monotonous.

What else? The story also gives you a glimpse into Jules’ harried, crazy life and husband, who’s quit his job to be on “mom duty” (worst term, right?) and is quietly struggling to find his identity as his wife basically rules the world. Ok, she’s ruling the stylish web sites, world. #GIRLBOSS

Pitch Perfect and/or Modern Family fans will totally appreciate screen time to Adam DeVine, who heads up the site’s intern program. Whittaker, in his polished suits and vintage leather briefcase. paired with the three other 20-something, scruffy, and hoodie wearing guys, provide a number of laugh-out-loud moments.

Should I see it? Definitely! Nothing against Hathaway, who I happen to adore, however DeNiro is honestly the highlight of the film. He is so stinkin’ adorable. We were literally melting over his sweet, gentle manner to Jules, while simultaneously hysterical over his one liners.

Rating: B+; why no A? Without giving anything away, there was one part I wish turned out differently (email me and we can discuss!). You should totally wrap yourself in your cozy cardigan (my friend was fully jealous of me!), some popcorn and sour patch kids and make this a girls’ night or date night; promise, your guy will dig it, too!

I am sorry you emailed me last night and I was watching the new Tom Hanks movie. Holy cow Tom Hanks hit it out of the park again.

Back to The Intern, I loved the movie, it was a movie that I could have sit and watched it again. I follow a blog Garance Dore, and she styled some of the movie and she also spoke with Nancy Meyers and Anne Hathway. They discuss the parts of the movie that we had some issues with. I think you will enjoy listening to it. I love the idea of a girl’s movie club, I want to add it to my book club .
